In May seafood to the value of 3.3 billion NOK was exported. This is an increase of 461 million, or 16% compared with May 2008. So far this year seafood to the value of 17.2 billion NOK has been exported. That’s an increase of 2.1 billion, or 14% compared with the same period last year. That is an export record for May, and also for the period up to and including May, according to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.
Export growth for salmon alone came to 468 million NOK for the month of May.A strong interest in several markets led to more Norwegian salmon being exported, at a much higher price, than the same time last year, says Egil Ove Sundheim, Director for Market information at the Seafood Export Council.
