According to SARF the research application is Project Area RMS. Treatment of Red Mark Syndrome (RMS). Studies in the eradication of RMS and development of a code of practice to prevent (or reduce) the impact and spread of RMS. It is informed that the RMS is an emerging disease, in the UK, Europe and US, and significant funding has already been invested by industry, feed and pharmaceutical companies with regard to vaccine formulation and field trials, including transmission trial experiments.
Till date no effective treatments are available and, thus far, little progress has been made in developing a disease management strategy. Further research is required to investigate and confirm the role of Flavobacterium psychrophilum within RMS and develop practical treatment and management strategies for this disease in farmed rainbow trout.
SARF states that it is also seeking to attract innovative proposals related to the further sustainable development of aquaculture in Scotland. Applicants are invited to complete concept note forms outlining the proposed project. It is told that the completed applications will be considered by the SARF Board at the next Board meeting on 13th May. Successful applicants will be requested to produce full applications which will undergo internal and external peer review before the Board makes a final decision.
