Commissioner Damanaki welcomes contribution by WWF/Industry Alliance
After meeting the WWF – Industry Alliance at Europe House in London today, EU Fisheries Commissioner Damanaki said:
“The FAO annual report on fisheries published on Monday shows once again that overfishing must stop and that we need a real reform if we want to make our policies sustainable.
Only a broad societal awareness and public support can bring about real change in fisheries policy. We need effective campaigns like Hugh’s Fish fight to wake up people to support change.
We equally need the assistance of strong Industry and environmental leaders like those I have met in London today to deliver a reform throughout Europe that will secure a future for fish and fisheries alike, as well as the marine environment that supports them.”
