The latest completion by Macduff Shipyards Limited is the “Rebecca”
for skipper Adam Tait, who operates through Westward Fishing
Company.
This is a new model, developed to the skippers requirements.
Adam wanted a similar fishroom capacity to the previous 18/19 metre
vessels built by the yard, but the vessel had to be more fuel efficient by
developing a design which was easier to push through the water.
Through consultations with a technical institution the yard has developed
a longer bulbous bow, which, in conjunction with a raked stem and finer
forward lines should deliver a design to match the owners expectations.
The move away from Vessel Capacity Units in which overall length was
a major factor, to a system where only Gross Tonnage and Kilowatts are
used also helped in developing a design with more pronounced stem
rake.
The hull form is double chine, with a box type ballast keel.
The steel deckhouse is fitted rail to rail athwartships and the steel shelterdeck is formed as an extension of the hull without a rail line.
The shelterdeck is all weathertight except for the aft net handling area.
Layout below deck from forward – forepeak c/w chain locker, fishroom, engineroom, and cabin with steering gear compartment.
Layout on main deck from forward – winch room, fish handling area, deckhouse, and net handling area.
The main engine is a Caterpillar 3412CTA rated 650HP at 1800RPM with a Reintjes WAF374L reverse reduction gearbox with 7.476:1 reduction ratio, driving a 1900mm diameter 4 blade Lips propeller in a Lips nozzle.
A Cummins 6CTA8.3M auxiliary engine is fitted on the port side, and is arranged to drive the hydraulic pumps for the deck machinery. The engine is heat exchanger cooled and is rated 255HP at 1800RPM, with variable speed control from the wheelhouse.
Two Cummins 6BT3.9DIM 58kw 415/3/50 generator sets are fitted on the starboard side, with one fitted with a deadship start.
The Caterpillar main engine and the two Cummins generators are arranged for keel cooling, with Fernstrum gridcoolers supplied by Kort
Propulsion Co Ltd.
The sterngear was manufactured by the Yard and is fitted with Deep Sea
Seals.
The Caterpillar main engine was supplied by Finning Limited.
The Cummins engine for driving the hydraulics was supplied direct from Cummins, but the two Cummins generator sets were supplied by Beta Marine Ltd.
A FloScan fuel monitor is fitted.
Remote fuel tank capacity indicators are fitted in the wheelhouse.
The deck machinery package is as follows
1 – Macduff 3 drum trawl winch
2 – Macduff split net drums
1 – TMA Gilson winch
1 – Thistle MKB7 kinked boom short post crane c/w powerblock
1 – Thistle MFB8 straight boom discharging crane c/w winch
1 – curved towing bar and carriage
1 – standby pump c/w Stromag clutch from main engine
