Iceland’s Minister of Infrastructure has signed off updates to regulations relating to the coastal fishery, increasing this year’s available cod allocation from 13,350 tonnes to 14,314 tonnes.
This increases the overall catch available to the fleet operating within the coastal fishery framework to 15,664 tonnes. This is the second time this year that the Ministry of Infrastructure has increased the coastal fishery allocation, as an addition 2700 tonnes of cod was added in June.
This additional allocation comes from the 5.3% of TACs that are held back and used for particular purposes.
In this instance the minister has exercised his discretion to allocate an additional 964 tonnes of cod to this year’s coastal fishery.
