The lifeboat launched at 4:30pm at the request of Liverpool Coastguard and reached the stricken vessel with five persons onboard at 5:45pm. The 19 metre fishing vessel had broken down 7 miles north-west of the Point of Ayre. The casualty was taken safely in tow towards Whitehaven by the lifeboat.
About 15 miles off Whitehaven, Ramsey lifeboat was met by and passed the tow to Workington lifeboat, which then completed the tow to Whitehaven. Ramsey’s relief lifeboat returned to Ramsey and was back on station by 9pm. Ramsey’s volunteer crew had returned from Holyhead with the relief lifeboat just 48 hours earlier.
Ramsey’s own Mersey class RNLI lifeboat, the Ann and James Ritchie, is currently in Holyhead undergoing minor maintenance and repairs. Whilst she is away Bingo Lifeline, one of the RNLI charity’s relief lifeboat fleet, is on station at Ramsey.
