A Scottish pelagic vessel is now on its way to Korea to be refitted for crabbing, while retaining its pelagic trawl and purse seine capacity.
Now renamed Taurus, Lunar Fishing’s Pathway PD-165 has been handed over in Peterhead to its new owners and is now on its way to Busan in Korea, with an expected call at Cape Town on the way.
Once in Busan it will be refitted for crab fishing, with capacity to handle both frozen and fresh crab, while it will retain its existing pelagic trawling and purse seine equipment. The refit is expected to be complete in September.
The sale was brokered by Icelandic company Alasund Shipbrokers.
Taurus was built at was built at the Simek yard in Norway in 2003 for Scottish pelagic operator Lunar Fishing. The 66.60 metre by 14.50 metre beam pelagic vessel has a 5913kW Wärtsilä main engine with a two-step gearbox. It has 1950 cubic metres of RSW capacity and a 1.70 million kCal Optimar ammonia RSW system.
The deck equipment, including 82 tonne trawl winches and 50 tonne net drums, are from Karmøy Winch, as is the 18 inch fish pump. Accommodation is for a crew of sixteen in single cabins.
