There is another casualty to Norway’s oil industry fleet as Rem Maritime is reported to have sold a PSV to be converted for fishing purposes.
Rem Maritime is based in Fosnavåg and established in the mid-1990s under Åge Remøy as a diversification from the company’s primary activities in fishing. The company’s offshore support fleet has been highly successful during the boom years of the oil industry, growing to half a dozen subsea vessels, a fleet of eleven platform support vessels (PSVs) and one offshore construction vessel.
Like every other operator in the sector, the company has been hit by the downturn in the oil business and much of its fleet has been idle.
The announcement has been made that one of its PSVs has been sold to an as yet unnamed international customer and will be operated in a fishing role, although no details have been made available.
Rem Star was built in 2009 at Simek to a Rolls-Royce UT755 design. It measures 76.60 metres in length and has a 16 metre beam. It is powered by a pair of 2600kW Wartsila 8L26 engines providing a total output of 5200kW, with more power than is usual for this type of vessel available to the twin propellers and the twin stern and twin bow thrusters. Accommodation is for up to 41 persons.
Rem Star is currently laid up at Mjølstadneset near Fosnavåg.
