TV show has boosted the market for red king crab in a great way. Dave Keen, a wholesale crab marketer with the Crab Broker, a major domestic distributor of high-end seafood, said that now a buyer of crab know every details of the right place where he or she can have the crab without hassle. Television series has contributed in a great way to create the awareness about the king crab.
Keen informed that if a buyer don’t have business relationship with one trader or another then it is certain that he or she would not be able to buy the ultimate red king crab even in full crab season. It is said that the harvest of snow crab was under way earlier this month, with a number of processors posting an advance price of $1.58 a pound, compared with about $1.50 in 2007, informed Greg White, a negotiator for the Inter Cooperative Exchange, which represents the bulk of Bering Sea king and snow crab harvesters.
According to Keen the popularity of red king crab has been boosted by the “deadliest Catch’ TV show which present a major restaurant adding new sea food entrees to its menu. Keen also said that the growing demand of Alaska king crab has raised remarkably and the wholesale prices of it is up about $1 a pound. He opined, “We think that we may run out of stock as the demand is going high and high.”
The market of crab, of all kinds, is higher this year in comparison to last year. White said the current year is going to be a good season for crab despite diminished capacity in the processing sector. He informed that the stronger markets of crab are Japan and USA but now it going to fluctuate due rise in domestic demand.
