Fishing gear manufacturer Mar Eco is kicking off production of its Pluto doors in Spain, initially for customers in Spain and Italy, as well as for the wider European market.

‘The first two moulds, 0.8 square metres and 1.4 square metres, are with our rotational moulding partner, Artyplast Rotacional in Olerdola, Catalonia,’ said Atli Már Jósafatsson, commenting that initial production is highly promising, with the doors from the first production mouldings having been adapted with modified steel inserts that absorb tensions of the warps and backstrops.
‘These are semi-pelagic doors that are ideal for towing gear on and off the bottom, as they skim above the seabed and don’t make ground contact. The plan is to service the fleet of small size fishing boats in the southern part of Europe from Spain as well as the north African market – to begin with,’ he said, adding that visitors to the Scottish Skipper Expo in Aberdeen in May will get the opportunity to see some of the first Pluto doors produced in Spain, and the range is to be stepped up to include a variety of sizes and pelagic doors to meet demand.
