As a response to this year’s fishing industry exhibitions being cancelled due to Covid-19, the organisers of FishFacts – who had intended to have their own strong exhibition presence this year – have stepped up and are organising a virtual exhibition.
FishFacts is run by Faroese father and son Óli and Hanus Samró, and they had intended to be present at most industry exhibitions this year, including Brussels, Havfisk and Nor-Fishing, none of which are now taking place.
The FishFacts virtual fishing industry exhibition takes place on 9-10th June, providing online spaces for companies looking to show their skills and products, as well as opportunities for visitors to meet them, and the then set up meetings to discuss what they can do for each other.
‘I’m pleasantly surprised by the interest shown. We have already confirmed bookings from 17 service providers. It may not sound like much, but when you consider the fact that we launched our FishExpo less than a week ago, it is already a success,’ said Fishfacts.com co-founder Hanus Samró.
‘What surprised me the most, is the reaction from our skippers. They are very pleased because they can finally attend a FishExpo, even though they’re at sea. They want to know everything about the newest techniques and technologies, and finally we can give them what they seek. Not only will they be able to see the stands but if the attendees want to, they can arrange/attend live-streams and events online.’
Currently more than 400 fishing vessels are using Fishfacts, and these are all around the world. According to Hanus Samró, they range from Svalbard to the Southern Ocean, and from Canada to the Sea of Okhotsk.
‘This is the first virtual FishExpo in the world. There will always be scepticism, but luckily we have permission to mention some of our users. Many of them are thinking of building new fishing vessels. We can not mention them all but we have permission to give some examples. We can confirm that our exhibitors will connect with some of the biggest fishing vessels operating in the North Atlantic; Gitte Henning1, Gerda Marie, Aðalsteinn Jónsson, Avataq, Akraberg, Enniberg and more. The skippers have confirmed attendance at our virtual FishExpo on the 9th and 10th of June 2020,’ Hanus Samró said.
