A Norwegian fishing trawler the Storeknut was the first mid water fishing trawler to land a cache of blue whiting at Peterhead Harbour , Scotland’s premier fishing port last week.
The 70mtre Stroeknut which was formerly named Kings Cross FR 380 catch the Blue Whiting some 300 miles west of Ireland of the coast of Donegal. The Storeknut landed 750 tonnes at Peterhead harbour last week.
The catches if Blue Whiting have been severely reduced in 2011 for Scottish, Norwegian and Irish trawlers as a result of the
Total Allowable Catch (TAC) being cut by over 90 per cent this the result of a massive stock reduction caused by the Faroe and Iceland to establish inflated track records, for which fishing fleets of other countries are paying the price.
The only one Scottish trawler will fish for Blue Whiting is the Peterhead based Kings Cross.
Last week the Norwegian trawlers Morten Einar, Brennholm and other landed Blue Whiting into Killybegs Harbour Co Donegal. The prices for the Blue Whiting were said to be good at around £400 per tonne.
