All three of HB Grandi’s pelagic vessels are now on the pearlside fishery. Faxi arrived on fishing grounds on Sunday, while Ingunn AK and Lundey NS started fishing this morning.
According to Hjalti Einarsson, they had a 70 to 80 tonne haul to begin with and this afternoon Faxi had 150 tonnes on board. Twelve other vessels are fishing on the same grounds as Faxi.
‘We’re using a capelin trawl with a capelin codend, but it seems that we’ll need something with smaller mesh to do any good. Of course we need to learn a bit more about catching pearlside. I like the look of it, but it seems that the fish are smaller than I had expected,’ he said and commented that fishing is only possible during daylight hours.
Bjarni Ólafsson AK today docked in Akranes with between 1000 and 1200 tonnes of pearlside on board that is being discharged to HB Grandi’s fishmeal plant there.
