The MSC label appears on over 23,000 sustainable seafood products distributed in over 100 countries worldwide, but had never been seen on a babyfood product. Until now that is! The breakthrough comes from the French company Yooji, which today launches its frozen cod portions, prepared solely with cod procured from MSC-certified sources.

A large group of Dutch, German, French, English, Lithuanian, Danish and Irish pelagic fishers has entered the first blue whiting fishery into MSC assessment. This is the third multi-national assessment of a pelagic fishery in recent months marking a growing trend of cross-border cooperation in the pelagic sector. By working together, national fishing organisations are reducing their assessment costs and collaborating to improve fishery management.
The ten Member States that declared having exceeded their fishing quotas in 2013 will face reduced fishing quotas for those stocks in 2014. The European Commission announces these deductions on a yearly basis to immediately address the damage done to the stocks overfished in the previous year and ensure a sustainable use by Member States of common fishery resources. Compared to last year, the number of deductions made went down by 22%.
