When Trygve Westergard bought the 98 by 28-foot Judi B in the spring of 2016 he was entering a new chapter in a varied marine career. Growing up on a remote island off Ketchikan, Alaska as the third generation of Norwegian-Danish family, he had fishing in his blood and his environment. A stint at the California Maritime Academy earned him an unlimited masters licence and a BS in marine transportation.

Norway sets export records

Norway’s seafood export values have been at record levels in the first half of 2018, according to the Norwegian Seafood Council. Exports of 1.4 million tonnes of seafood are valued at NoK48.10 billion in the first half of this year, representing a 4% increase in value over the same period in 2017, and 10% in volume.

Global seafood industry gender survey results published

The International Association for Women in the Seafood Industry (WSI) has released the results of a worldwide survey carried out on perceptions on the positions, roles and responsibilities of women in the seafood industry. The survey is based on responses between September and December 2017, and provides evidence of pervasive gender-based discrimination, a wide gap in perception between men and women and a limited consciousness of the gender relationship and gender imbalance in this industry.
