Westmann Islands fishing company Ísfélag Vestmannaeyja has bought one of HB Grandi’s now surplus to requirements fresher trawlers, replaced by the company’s recent series of newbuilds.
The 50.50 metre Ottó N Thorláksson RE-203 was built at the Stálvík shipyard in Garðabær in 1981 for one for the companies that subsequently became HB Grandi and it has operated very successfully for the company for the last 36 years.
HB Grandi has now taken delivery of all three of its new fresher trawlers, Engey, Akurey and Viðey, replacing Ásbjörn, already sold to Iran, Sturlaugur H Böðvarsson and Ottó N Thorláksson.
The price tag for Ottó N Thorláksson is reported to be ISK150 million (€1.21 million) and the trawler is to be delivered to its new Westmann Islands owners not later than 31st May next year.
Ísfélag Vestmannayja currently operates a variety of fishing vessels; two pelagic catchers, two groundfish trawlers and one inshore longliner.
