Norwegian Seafood Export Council has released figures which show the highest export value ever recorded for Norwegian Salmon in the month of May. Compared to the same month last year, the value of exports of Norwegian Salmon showed an increase of 26p percent or NOK 509 million.
As per Pau Aandahl, market analyst, a 10 percent rise in the total export volume of Norwegian Salmon has been noticed in May. At the same time, the price of fresh whole Norwegian Salmon increased by 14 percent to NOK 39.91 per kg. He commented that the strength of Norwegian Salmon exports is attributable to growth in demand combined with reduced competition in the world market for salmon.
There was growth in both volume and price in the month of May such as exports increased by 10 percent to 58,898 tonnes compared to May 2009. At the same time, the price of fresh whole Norwegian Salmon increased by 14 percent to NOK 39.91 per kg. the figure shows that the total volume of exports to Russia of Norwegian Salmon and Norwegian Fjord Trout combined increased by a more modest 2 percent in May compared to the same month last year.
American market also registered strong growth of 85 percent in terms of value of exports. The value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in May fell by 32 percent to NOK 100 million compared to the same month last year. The volume of exports totalled 2,361 tonnes, down by 2,099 tonnes or 47 percent from May 2009.
