Ingunn AK is on the way to Trænø in northern Norway to land 390 tonnes of Atlanto-Scandian herring. The fish were caught in Norwegian waters over the weekend and this finished the quota that HB Grandi’s pelagic vessels had to fish for herring in Norwegian waters this year.
Ingunn sailed from Værøy in the north of Norway on Friday after landing 850 tonnes of herring, when the course was set back to the same fishing grounds and it did not take long to catch the 400 remaining tonnes of the company’s Norwegian quota.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, director of HB Grandi’s pelagic division, Ingunn will return home after landing in Trænø. HB Grandi has remaining Atlanto-Scandian herring quota, but the chances of finding herring in catchable amounts outside the Norwegian EEZ are believed to be slim.
The other HB Grandi pelagic vessels have been active and Faxi RE has just finished landing 800 tonnes of herring in Vopnafjördur, where the fish was processed into fillets and flaps. Lundey NS is also on the way to Vopnafjördur this evening with 800 tonnes of herring caught in Breidafjördur.
