The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is asking for information from the residents around the north Norfolk coast to come forward if they have any information on further seal deaths in the area. The continuous death of seals has created havoc and the MMO has investigating the deaths since August 2010. Recently in December four seals found dead and MMO is doing the investigation on this where three of these have similar injuries, while the fourth is still being investigated.
The MMO, which regulates the use of English seas, is leading on the investigation to determine the cause of seal deaths occurring on the north Norfolk coast, and wants anyone with information to come forward. As per MMO all information provided will remain confidential. Neil Wellum, Head of Marine Conservation and Enforcement at the MMO, said they are keeping an open mind on all possible causes as they collect information from as many sources as possible.
Wellum also said that all the information provided by the residents of the area are welcome as a part of ongoing investigation. At present there is no evidence of any criminal activity and the cause of the seal deaths is yet to be established. With support from the Norfolk Police, the MMO will continue work to determine the cause in an effort to eliminate risks to the local seal population.
