“Nor-Fishing is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and we are pleased to note that the exhibition is more popular than ever,” comments Mr. Berg. “We have not noticed any effect of the financial crisis and the space is fully booked.”
H.M. King Harald will do the official opening of the exhibition on Tuesday 17th August. In attendance will also be Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Mrs. Lisbeth Berg-Hansen, the Director of Fisheries, Ms. Liv Holmefjord, and the Mayor of Trondheim Ms. Rita Ottervik. In connection with the 50th anniversary, the Nor-Fishing Foundation has invited former ministers of fisheries and former directors of fisheries to visit the exhibition. Three ministers and two directors will also participate in a panel discussion on the past, present and future situation of the Norwegian fisheries industry. The debate will take place on Wednesday 18th August.
“We expect that technological innovations will be presented by the exhibitors, but as organisers of the event, we must allow ourselves to look back also,” says Mr. Berg. “That’s is why we have dusted off an old Wickmann engine which we will start up now and then to remind older fishermen and visitors of the old times with its familiar “dunk-dunk” sound.”
The exhibition area covers some 14,000 square meters this year. It is expected that approximately 15,000 visitors will come to the exhibition during the four days that it lasts. A number of Norwegian and international journalists have already registered their attendance, and delegations from several countries will also visit Nor-Fishing 2010, among others from Russia, China, Vietnam and Indonesia.
