The Nodosa Shipyard at Marín in Spain has launched the latest newbuild for the Falkland Islands.
The 75 metre LOA, 14 metre breadth Falcon is being built for the Petrel Fishing Company, a longstanding joint venture between Falklands company Fortuna and Vigo-based Pescapuerta Group.
The order for the new Falcon was placed in 2019 and this is one of the largest trawlers to be built by Nodosa, which has established a track record of supplying newbuilds to the Falklands fleet.
Falcon is the yard’s own design, with a similar hull arrangement to that of Argos Cies which was delivered in 2018, and also built to concentrate on fishing for squid.
The emphasis has been placed on safety and comfort for the crew, energy optimisation and catch quality.
Currently being outfitted at the Nodosa yard, Falcon is expected to be delivered to its owners in November, and to be operational for the January loligo season.
