N.H. fishing industry’s total revenue for the year 2006 is recorded as the second most profitable year in nearly 10 years. A report released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Institute revealed that in 2006, the most recent year studied, New Hampshire had total landings revenue or value of the catch at the dock totaling $18.8 million $3.3 million less than the $22 million posted in 2005 but substantially higher than total revenues of $12.6 million in 1997.
The author of the report determined that New Hampshire’s commercial fishing industry had nearly $311 million in sales impacts in 2006 and creating some 6,400 jobs. It is found that lobster was the largest amount of product caught by New Hampshire fishermen in 2006. The second largest was pollock (2.6 million pounds) followed by Atlantic herring (2 million pounds) and Atlantic cod (1 million pounds).
The report also mentioned that Massachusetts had $4.4 billion in sales impact and $437 million in landings revenue, making the Bay State the third-highest grossing commercial fishing state in the country. Also, Maine had $1.4 billion in total sales impact, with $361 million in landings revenue, Rhode Island had $706 million in total sales impact, with $98 million in landings revenue and Connecticut $339 million in sales impact, with $37 million in landings revenue.
