Vónin has finalised plans to build a new net loft in Fuglafjørður and CEO Hjalmar Petersen has signed a contract for the new building to be erected with construction company J&K Petersen.
Vónin has until now been located at the far end of the harbour in Fuglafjørður, but Vónin’s new headquarters ensure that this is the first thing any vessel coming in to the port will see.
The new 115 by 18 metre building will be much better laid out and equipped than the company’s current let loft. Vónin’s Fuglafjørður branch handles primarily pelagic fishing gear, and the new space will make it easier to work on these large fishing gears. Work that has until now been done outside will now be able to be done under cover.
Hjalmar Petersen said that Vónin’s activity has grown rapidly in the last couple of years, and the time had come to develop modern trawl gear facilities in Fuglafjørður, with an extension for the office side of the business. As well as the net loft itself, the new premises will also have extensive fishing gear storage space where customers can store gear between seasons.
Vónin’s current building in Fuglafjørður is being taken over by fishing company Framherji, although Vónin will continue to use the building where purse seine gear is made and stored.
The new net loft is expected to be ready by the 1st of March 2018.
