The Western Fish Producers’ Organisation (WFPO) became the newest fish producer organisation in the UK when the Marine Management Organisation approved its application on 6th April.
WFPO is regionally based in the West of the UK and has two inaugural members; Waterdance Ltd and Passmore Fishing.
The application process was led by Nathan de Rozarieux (Tegen Mor Fisheries Consultants) and Andrew Oliver (Andrew Jacksons LLP). The producer organisation will bring together 19 UK fishing vessels and a team of expertise.
The managing directors of WFPO’s two member companies, Waterdance’s Nigel Blazeby and Passmore Fishing’s Alex Passmore have issued a joint statement stating that this represents a step change for both fleets as they join a new PO.
‘Our hopes are for a dynamic organisation which will be at the forefront of UK fishing. The inaugural members bring a wealth of experience in not only fisheries but also safe vessel operations, quota management, sustainable fishing and marketing. The aim will be to grow the organisation into a leading and innovative group which works to provide high quality seafood, marketed widely, while significantly contributing to employment in our coastal communities.’
The WFPO expects to begin operating from the start of 2021 and is currently recruiting for a manager – details available here.
