Simrad, the undisputed leader in the world of sonar technology for the professional fishing market has developed a new, smaller hull unit for its Simrad SX90 sonar family. The new SX95 Hull Unit has been designed to offer smaller trawlers and purse seiners the opportunity to fit the new Simrad SX90 sonar, and take advantage of its unmatched catch improving capabilities. Launched at Danfish International in October 2007, the Simrad SX90 is a low frequency, high-definition, long range sonar. It uses two powerful high-end computers to process data from the transducer, making it the most powerful Simrad sonar ever released. It is also the most powerful professional fishing sonar on the market today. The new SX95 Hull Unit has a total height of approximately 2.5 metres, this includes the installation trunk. The weight is approximately 520 kg. By using the Ethernet networked remote control the hull unit extends the SX90 transducer to 1 metre below the hull. In this position, the boat is allowed a maximum speed of 12 knots. The SX95 Hull Unit will fit on a standard Simrad installation trunk with 540 mm pitch centre diameter
Thanks to the new hull unit, smaller boats that previously could not fit the Simrad SX90 sonar system due to the large size and weight of the original hull units, can now opt for the most powerful catching sonar available to the world’s fishing fleet today. "From the feedback we have received, the SX90 provides unparalleled catching performance so the next step is to widen its availability within the fishing industry, which is something that the new SX95 Hull Unit was specifically designed for,” comments Mads Dahl, Simrad.
