Pereira Fishing is a big name in Namibia and has many Namibian shareholders. The company has now opened it new multi-million-dollar cold storage and processing facility in Walvis Bay. The new facility will not only enhance the quality and value of fish exported to European markets but also generate more work and employment opportunity for Namibians.
The company told that the new facility consists of huge freezer rooms – with a capacity of 1 500 tonnes of fish – storage and loading space, as well as an automated processing line. Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister Abraham Iyambo state that the facility comes at right time when the local fishing industry is facing tough economic situations in the form of fluctuating exchange rates and global fish prices, and also ever increasing fuel prices.
He informed that Pereira’s new facility would make the fishing industry more stable, efficient and profitable in the long run. Pereira Fishing’s President, Jose Pereira, said his new concern will boost fish exports and that too in better market prices. He added that his firm is working on other projects for the improvement of the local processing, market diversity and quality of its products.
