Terje E. Martinussen, managing director of the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, has said that recently the developments in Norwegian Cod markets have shown that relatively highly priced products such as Norwegian Cod have come up against market challenges. He also said that it is important to enhance demand by increasing the marketing efforts. The council has earmarked NOK 20 million for extraordinary market campaign.
It is informed that the extraordinary marketing campaign will be channelled through marketing initiatives under the auspices of the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. It is said that the new extraordinary marketing campaign represents a 50 percent increase in the Norwegian Seafood Export Council’s planned budgets, which for whitefish alone stands at NOK 40 million.
According to Martinussen the government’s efforts to meet the challenges in the markets in collaboration with the Norwegian fisheries industry are especially welcome. The initiatives will be divided between marketing of Norwegian clipfish in Portugal and marketing of fresh and frozen whitefish in Norway, Sweden, France, Spain and elsewhere.
The Norwegian Seafood Export Council is expected to use the extra resources to strengthen this campaign from the very first day. The initial goal is to consolidate and raise demand for Skrei, which is a seasonal product. Market director Merete N. Kristiansen from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council, said that this will provide a major boost to cod farming and that it is important to the long-term positioning of Norwegian Cod as a high-quality product.
