A group in Iceland is planning to launch a new fishing industry exhibition this year, to be held at the Laugardalshöll sports and exhibition centre in Reykjavík 28th to 30th of September. Preparations have been underway for two years and companies of all sizes are ready to take part.
‘My company, Ritsýn, has organised a great many conferences and exhibitions over the last nineteen years,’ said managing director Ólafur M Jóhannesson. ‘These include a series of heavyweight catering and hotel industry events since 2005, and we have seen plenty of companies and organisations coming to use to organise the event that is now about to become a reality.’
A long list of organisations have backed the initiative, including unions and associations representing seamen, vessel owners, processors and other interested parties.
‘We certainly appreciate the support we have received from all these organisations and the spread of the industry that they represent,’ he said, commenting that Laugardalshöll was the first choice as a venue. ‘This is the only sports venue that is designed as an exhibition venue.’
The new exhibition in Iceland is being promoted energetically overseas, including at the Brussels Exposition in April.
‘Stand sales are in full swing already and we have a varied array of companies already confirmed which underscores the health of the Icelandic fisheries sector. We plan to open the event with a ceremony on Wednesday the 28th of September, followed by the exhibition being open on Thursday and Friday from 1000 to 1800,’ Ólafur Jóhannesson said.
‘Everyone in the business gets to meet at this event, which makes a huge difference in today’s computer age when most communications are conducted via a computer screen. This is the kind of event that stimulates business.’
