Scottish fishermen have two fishing industry events to look forward to in 2011 after an Irish media company revealed on Friday August 13 it was organising a new fishing event in Aberdeen.
Mara Media, which are based in Donegal, Ireland, said its first Scottish Skipper Expo would take place at the Exhibition and Conference Centre in Aberdeen on June 24-25.
It will come a few months after Fishing 2011 the latest in a series of fishing shows billed as the UK industry’s largest, which is being held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow from March 24-26.
The annual Fishing events began in Glasgow in the late 80’s and return there in 1998 after five years in Aberdeen.
Scottish Skippers Expo organisers said they had chosen the heartland (Aberdeen) of Scotland’s fishing industry for their event, which they hope will be the first of many.
Mara Media has been organising an annual show in Ireland Irish Skipper Expo for six years. The company also put in a workboat and angling events across the Irish Sea in addition to publishing various magazines.
Mara Media said. “ By choosing Aberdeen as the location, this will place the event within a short distance of the main fishing ports. As a Two-day event on a Friday and Saturday it also mean exhibitors and fishermen will have minimal time away from their work places”.
Welcoming the new event, Scottish White Fish Producers’ Association executive chairman Mike Park said: “I am delighted to see a fishing expo returning to the heart of the Scottish and UK fishing industry. Aberdeen shows of the past were a feature of the fishing calendar”.
