HB Grandi’s new production facility in Vopnafjördur, intended to house the company’s fishmeal production, is taking shape rapidly. Progress is being made steadily and staff from Hédinn hf began constructing the steel frame of the building at the end of last month. Previously, a concrete building had already been completed for the control room, offices, laboratory and staff quarters.
The new building covers a 1200 square metre area and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
According to Vilhjálmur Vilhjálmsson, head of HB Grandi’s pelagic division, much of the steel frame is complete and footings have been built for the dryer and evaporatiors that are the main items of production equipment that were brought from the Reykjavík factory.
Herring production at Vopnafjördur has been progressing well recently and at the beginning of this week a total of 3000 tonnes of product had been frozen since the staff summer holiday ended on the 18th of August
