According to the official press release of Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada, Dr Sylvian Paradis was appointed to the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea. Commenting on this Minister Shea said that she was very pleased that Dr. Paradis accepted this position and she would like to congratulate him. His wealth of knowledge and experience in fisheries research makes him an excellent choice for the position.
The pres communiqué reads that Dr. Paradis will replace Mr. Serge Labonté on the Council, as Mr. Labonté has retired. Minister Shea told that she would like to thank Mr. Labonté upon his retirement for the dedication and hard work he has shown while in this position. Dr. Paradis will join Dr. Michael Sinclair as the two Canadian delegates appointed from Fisheries and Oceans Canada to the Council.
The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea is a strong organization which encourages and coordinates marine environment and fisheries-related research, with a focus on the North Atlantic Ocean. The Council serves as a scientific advisory body upon request to member governments or international regulatory bodies that manage the North Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas.
