According to NEAFC the appointment to the secretary position will have a term of three years with the possibility of prolongation at the discretion of the Commission. The main objective of the Commission is to ensure the long-term conservation and optimum utilization of the fishery resources in its Convention Area, proving sustainable economic, environmental and social benefits.
NEAFC’s member states have recently agreed on management measures for all fisheries in the NEAFC Regulatory Area and have run a highly efficient Scheme of Contorl and Enforcement, including strong measures against IUU fishing. According to NEAFC the position of secretary is responsible for coordinating and impartially promoting the interests of all Contracting Parties. There will be a budget of approximately pound 1.25 million in 2010.
The main function of the secretary is to manage communications with NEAFC’s Contracting Parties in all matters, managing relations with public and research community. The secretary will ensure the smooth running and implementation of the NEAFC Scheme of Control and Enforcement. Besides, there are other functions that the secretary has to perform in decent manner without hurting the limitation otf the commission.
