Shrimp trawler Nataarnaq, operated by Royal Greenland and Ice Trawl Greenland, this week docked this week after a month-long trip with almost a thousand tonnes in its fishroom.
The catch was 958,612kg, caught over 26 days, the new trawler’s best trip to date.
‘We are proud of the crew and their efforts. It is a very good result which also shows how important it is to have a modern fishing fleet,’ said Ove Rosing Olsen, chairman of the board at Ice Trawl A/S.
Over half of the catch consists of Orange head A+ grade shrimp. These are large, high-quality shrimp, which makes them particularly sought after on the international market, and therefore also represent a very high value.
The 82.30 metre Nataarnaq was delivered at the beginning of 2022 as part of a major renewal of Royal Greenland’s fleet, with the aim of making it more modern and sustainable.
The refrigerated fishroom capacity of 2950 cubic metres allows for longer fishing trips with fewer port calls, and these can also be completed in less than 24 hours.
