According to the press release SRP, dependent on the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP), has issued a ministerial accord which upholds the application of measures of legal order, control, zonification and the investigation of the trawling fishing fleet which operates in the country. The ministerial agreement states that the General Directorate of Fishing will immediately initiate a process of decision making, elimination and regulation of the trawling fleet dedicated to the capture of Pomada prawn and shrimp, like in the regulation of its fishing equipment.
Before taking the process into consideration the agency must undertake a fleet census and verification of departure so as to consider only the vessels which have been active over the last two years. The SRP said that likewise, all trawling equipment used during the capture of Pomada prawn, shrimp and white fish species should be censored and inspected regularly to verify their respective technical measures.
It is informed that the vessels will be barred from participating in any fishing activities if they have been inactive for the past two years or if they have been caught participating in illicit activities, such as drug trafficking, human trafficking or piracy. All trawling will be prohibited within protected marine areas. The INP will monitor and evaluate these measures, to determine the level of annual exploitation of the resource and the maximum productive yield which is economically sustainable.
