Longliner Anna EA-305, operated by Samherji subsidiary Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa, has been sold to new owners in Canada.
The 52-metre, 11-metre breadth longliner was built in Norway in 2001 and extensively refurbished in 2008. The new owner is Canadian fishing company Arctic Fishery Alliance.
According to Samherji’s Kristján Vilhelmsson, there was interest from a number of directions when Anna advertised for sale.
‘Anna is an excellent longliner, with the line hauled through a moonpool. The main reason for the sale was that its operation was no longer financially worthwhile, so it was logical to sell the vessel,’ he said.
‘Anna hasn’t been fishing for some time and the crew have all been placed on other vessels with Samherji or Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa.’
