A new longliner for owners in Norway has been floated off at the Tersan yard in Turkey. This is the latest newbuild in a longstanding partnership between the yard and Norwegian designer Skipsteknisk, and the new Leinebris is set to replace a vessel of the same name that was built by the same partnership in 2015.
A key difference compared to the current Leinebris is that the new vessel is designed with a broader range of fishing methods and will be able to alternate longlining with netting and seine netting, and it is also being outfitted with tanks for landing live catches.
‘This is a proud moment for us. I want to thank Tersan and the rest of our team who believes in us. With this newbuild we will harvest the finest Norwegian whitefish for years to come, whilst we also meet our sustainability targets and reduce our marine footprint,’ said Paul Harald Leinebø, speaking as the new vessel hit the water at the Yalova yard.
The new Leinebris has an overall length of 67.30 metres and a 15-metre breadth. Propulsion is diesel-electric, with PU115 azimuth and AR63 retractable azimuth combi thrusters for advanced maneuvering.
The steering includes BrunCon PTC and BrunCon JS with Position Hold and Brunvoll Fishpilot system. The energy installation includes a large battery pack and three diesel-electric generator sets for optimal energy efficiency. Deck systems are fully electric and the longline system is coupled to a moonpool for hauling the gear direct into a bay within the vessel.
Leinebris is designed with accommodation for a crew of up to 25.
‘Eight years after the delivery of the first Leinebris, it is both a great honour and pleasure for us to be the builder of the new vessel. We believe she will be a revolutionary vessel for the fishing sector, continuing the pioneering legacy of Leinebris AS,’ said the yard’s CEO Mehmet Gazioğlu.
