The directors of small-scale fishing organisation LIFE Platform (Low Impact Fishers of Europe) have come together in Brussels to oversee the latest phase of its evolution.
LIFE is about to become a Belgian-based not-for-profit body. The board has appointed Kasia Wysocka from Poland as chair to steer this new association, with Ger De Ruiter from the Netherlands as treasurer, and Gwen Pennarun from France as secretary
The new association will include as members organisations of EU small-scale fishing people committed to low-impact fishing activities, and on a case by case basis will associate with other, non-EU, European small-scale fishing organisations.
LIFE is currently incorporated in the UK, with 31 member organisations representing around 10,000 fishermen from 15 EU Member States, from the Baltic to the Black Sea.
