Norwegian fishing company Liegruppen’s new pelagic trawler Liafjord is steaming home to Norway, having been handed over to its owners by the Cemre Shipyard in Turkey.
The 71-metre by 15-metre beam Liafjord is designed by Salt Ship Design and follows the groundbreaking LNG-powered Libas, which was delivered by the same yard several years ago.
Liegruppen opted not to go for the same LNG propulsion system for Liafjord, although the vessel has some respectable green energy credentials, with electric winches, heat recovery technology and a large battery pack as part of its hybrid propulsion.
Liafjord is the first fishing vessel to be fitted with retractable bow foil technology from Wavefoil. The bow foils, seamlessly integrated into the vessel’s design, significantly reduce vessel motion and improve energy consumption in in heavy seas. This results in lower fuel consumption and emissions, while also making the vessel a more comfortable and stable working platform – while also allowing higher speeds to be maintained under rough conditions.
With Liafjord heading home to join the company fleet, Liegruppen has sold its older 64-metre, 4100hp pelagic vessel Ligrunn, which was built in 2013.
Pelagic trawler/purse seiner Ligrunn becomes Svanaug Elise and has been acquired by Kolbjørn Ervik and his family.
The previous 64-metre Svanaug Elise was built for them in 2001 at Eidsvik Skipsbyggeri, and has always been a dedicated purse seiner. It is now on the way to its new owners in Chile.
