The entire Aker shareholdings on Norwegian fisheries companies Havfisk and Norway Seafoods have been acquired by Lerøy Group.
Lerøy is currently a major supplier of seafood to the European retail market and the acquisition of these fishing operations from Aker places it in the position of being a major catcher as well, providing it with the opportunity to become a highly vertically integrated operation.
The takeover brings with it a sizeable fleet of modern catching vessels as well as access to approximately 100,000 tonnes of groundfish.
‘This Strategic move puts Lerøy in a position where it can continue its long-term development direction of the company’s vision of becoming one of the world’s most profitable global supplier of sustainable high-quality seafood,’ said Helge Singelstad, Chairman of Leroy.
The acquisition gives Lerøy 64.40% of shares in Havfisk and 73/60% of shares in Norway Seafoods.
