Construction is underway of a new trawler for fishing pelagic species in the Baltic at the Interfarm Construction Base at Svetly in Kaliningrad using design and engineering work carried out by local company Adomat, which previously managed the reconstruction of another local vessel, Kapitan Lobanov.

Last year fishing companies Dobroflot and Norebo both shipped fish from the Far East to Euroean Russia via the northern sea route, and there is interest in using the route again this year.

The Russian Fishing Company (RRPK) has struck a cooperation agreement with the Admiral GI Nevelskov Maritime State University (MSU) to support training in the skills the fishing industry expects to need in future.

At a meeting held in Agadir this week, Russia and Morocco have agreed terms for fisheries and co-operation for 2019, with an increase in the Russian fleet’s quotas for horse mackerel, anchovy, sardine and sardinella in Moroccan waters up by 10,500 tonnes to 140,000 tonnes.

With the first of the series of multi-purpose fishing vessels for the Russian Far East 90% complete, the initial trials are already in progress.
