The Nauta Shiprepair Yard in Poland has signed two contracts for building partly outfitted fishing trawlers. Both vessels have been ordered by Danish client, Karstensens Skibsvaerft, and Nauta now has twelve vessels at various states of construction that are being built for Danish, Norwegian, Swedish and UK fishing companies.
There is currently a high awareness of lost fishing gears and their impact on the marine environment, and there are increasingly initiatives to tackle the problem. In Poland coastal fishermen have mobilised to retrieve lost gear for their fishing grounds.
A new pelagic trawler for owners in Shetland was launched yesterday at the Newbuilding Division of the Nauta Shiprepair yard in Gdańsk. Serene is to be delivered by Nauta as a partly outfitted vessel, which will be completed at the Karstensen yard at Skagen in Denmark, the shipyard’s first delivery for Shetland owners.
