The value of exports of pelagic fish in the first quarter of 2011 totalled NOK 2.5 billion, an increase of NOK 482 million or 24% compared to the first quarter of 2010. This is the highest value ever registered for first quarter exports of pelagic fish for human consumption. In the same period, exports of herring increased in value by 28% to NOK 1.7 billion, while mackerel exports were up by no less than 50% to a value of NOK 597 million.

The value of seafood exports from Norway in the first quarter of 2011 totalled NOK 14 billion, up by NOK 1.7 billion or 14% compared to the first quarter of 2010. In March alone, exports totalled NOK 5 billion. This is an increase of NOK 409 million and establishes a new export record for the month of March.

Feeding a large halibut, such as broodstock fish, can be a challenge. While extrusion methods are good there is a limit to size. The answer according to Skretting is to make lots of smaller pellets and then stick them together into a larger block.

Cod exports, which include clipfish, salted and dried cod, totalled NOK 1.18 billion in February. This increase amounts to 24%, or NOK 229 million, in comparison with February 2010, according to figures issued by the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. Never before have cod exports been greater in the month of February and it is, in particular, the exports of clipfish, salted and fresh cod that have led to the increase.

The Marine Harvest Group has decided to change the organisation on group level from a geographic to a functional organisation with two business units; Farming and Global Sales and Marketing.

Nutreco announced today that it has agreed to acquire 100% of the shares in Shihai Co Ltd., a reputable and profitable fish and shrimp feed company in China.This acquisition will provide Skretting with a production base in China.

Exports of Norwegian Salmon in January totalled NOK 2.4 billion, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. This is the highest export value ever registered for the month of January and represents an increase of NOK 587 million or 33% compared to January 2010. At the same time, the volume of exports increased by 1% to 56,000 tonnes.

Olav Holst-Dyrnes will join Aker Seafoods as Director Harvesting to head the groups’ fishery activities. In addition, Frode Mikkelsen has joined Norway Seafoods as Sales Director. Other changes have also been made to the organization at Norway Seafoods.
