Norway showcased new aquaculture technology at a one-day seminar last week in Indonesia, involving Norwegian fish farming firms, research institutions and government officials from both countries in Jakarta.
The value of exports of Norwegian Seafood in September totalled NOK 5.1 billion. This is a decline of NOK 595 million compared to September last year. For the year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Seafood totals NOK 37.9 billion. According to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC), this is an increase of NOK 759 million on the same period in the record-breaking year of 2010.

Earlier this year, The Norwegian Fishery and Aquaculture Industry Research Fund (FHF) commissioned The Norwegian Institute of Food, Fisheries and Aquaculture Research (NOFIMA) and The Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), to review available scientific documentation on the subject on escaped salmon, genetic interaction, sea lice and its effects on wild North Atlantic salmon. Both Nofima reports, which are based on data with specific relevance to Norway, are now available in English and conclude amongst other things, that most assertions on these topics have insufficient scientific basis.

On September 19th, 2011 Aker Seafoods concluded an agreement with STX OSV AS to build three modern trawlers. The trawlers will have a new hull shape, reduced fuel consumption and an increased catch capacity. Aker Seafoods is taking an important step in the direction towards a more environmental-friendly and profitable white fish catch, according to the company.

In August, exports of codfish, including clipfish, salted fish and dried cod, totalled NOK 915.7 million, representing an increase of NOK 182 million, or 25%, on August last year, according to figures from the NSEC. Never before has the value of codfish exports been so high, either for the month of August or for the period so far this year. Exports from January until the end of August amounted to a total of NOK 7.3 billion.

Copeinca finished successfully the first fishing season in the Centre-North zone. The allowed quota was 3.675 million tonnes, out of which the Company has 10.7% of quota. The Company processed 393,237 MT, equivalent to 13.1% from own fleet and 2.4% from third parties. Total production yield was 28.5%. Most of the catch was concentrated in the center of the country from Huacho to Pisco, as a result of the presence of juveniles in the north zone. This situation represented an extra effort for the Company due the location of its plants.
Exports of groundfish including clipfish, salted fish and stockfish in July totalled NOK 787 million in value. This is an increase of NOK 56.7 million or 7% compared to July last year, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. Never before has the value of exports of groundfish been so high, either for a July month or for the January-July period. This year to date, the value of exports totals NOK 6.4 billion.
The value of exports of Norwegian Seafood in July totalled NOK 3.5 billion. This is a decline of NOK 269 million or 7% compared to the same month last year. For the year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Seafood totals NOK 29.3 billion, an increase of NOK 1.6 billion on the same period last year. This sets a new export record for the period, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.
