Fishing company Reyktal has bought freezer trawler Steffen C from its owners in Greenland.

The government of Greenland has set this year’s mackerel quota for East Greenland at 85,000 tonnes, along with a 20,000 tonne herring quota and a 15,000 tonne blue whiting quota.

Greenland has a share of the capelin quota around Iceland, but part of this goes to the Norwegian fleet.

Reports from m/v Akamalik state that they have had some great fishing. In only 26 days they caught 600 ton of Shrimp. The total value of the catch is approx DKK 20 million

Greenland’s cod, haddock and saithe fisheries in the North East Arctic area of the Barents Sea have entered MSC assessment.

The West Greenland cold water prawn trawl fishery today became the first Greenland fishery to achieve certification to the Marine Stewardship Council’s (MSC) global standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries. Cold water prawns (Pandalus borealis) harvested by this fishery are now eligible to bear the blue MSC ecolabel – an assurance to buyers and shoppers that the product originates from a certified source. The assessment was carried out by independent certifier Intertek Moody Marine LTD.

The Greenlandic shrimp trawler m/tr Akamalik has made an outstanding trip. They caught shrimps worth astonishing 11 millions DKK in only 9 days.
