French fishing company Comata has confirmed the order of a new 62.80 metre freezer longliner from Piriou for fishing toothfish in the Southern Ocean.

French fishing company Armement Cherbourgeois is expecting its first new trawler to be delivered in September this year by the Socarenam yard on Boulogne, and the company has already placed an order for a sister vessel.

The first of three new combination seine netters/trawlers for owners in Boulogne is about to be handed over by the Padmos shipyard in time for its christening ceremony in Boulogne next week.

Jean-Baptiste Goulard only in his early twenties when the owner he was working for at the time gave him the chance he needed to own his own boat. Now he can see that change is needed and has been immersed in the Blue Wave project to develop a new vessel to take the place of the traditional groundfish trawler fishing from Brittany, and the first of these new trawlers is about to start taking shape.

The latest addition to the French trawl fleet was on show yesterday in Lesconil. The new trawler has been built for Julien le Brun, who operates four fishing vessels in Plobannalec-Lesconil.

US fishing company Trimarine has confirmed its confidence in French fishing gear supplier Le Drezen by placing an order for a second tuna purse seine.

At the beginning of the year, Sapmer signed two collaboration agreements with Météo-France. Under the first of these, Sapmer undertakes to carry out the deployment of drifting buoys. The second agreement allows the installation of a Mercury meteorological observation station on board the longliner Albius.

The Chantier Glehen yard at Douarnenez in Brittany has completed a new coastal trawler, built to a Coprexma design.

The twelfth Itech’ Mer exhibition takes place this year in the French port of Lorient, and this year aims to bring together the European fishing sector’s decision-makers as part of the three-day programme.

Gérard Romiti has been successful in his bid for a second term as president of French fishermen’s and fish farmers’ association Comité National des Pêches Maritimes et des Élevages Marins (CNPMEM).
