The first of three new combination seine netters/trawlers for owners in Boulogne is about to be handed over by the Padmos shipyard in time for its christening ceremony in Boulogne next week.
Rosa de Cascia has been built for José Leprêtre, the first of three newbuilds under the Scopale partnership between CME and Scapêche. Two more of these modern 19.20 metre vessels are due for delivery later this year.
The three are built by Dieppe shipyard Manche Industrie Marine, which has built the hulls, while Padmos at Stellendam in Holland handles completion of the trawlers.
These versatile trawlers represent a new generation of fishing vessel for Boulogne, capable of alternating fishing with seine net, pelagic and demersal trawl gear and scallop gear.
Rosa de Cascia is expected to fish short trips of around 48 hours in the eastern Channel and southern North Sea, targeting a variety of species according to the seasons, including whiting, squid, cod, sole, cuttlefish, mullet, mackerel, herring and scallops.
Catches will go to the d’Agromousquetaires Capitaine Houat factory in Boulogne-sur-Mer.
