A familiar figure in the South African deep sea trawling industry, skipper Lalli Haraldsson has joined fishing gear supplier African Maritime Services (AMS) as the company’s trawl gear technologist.
‘His fishing career began in Iceland in 1968 when he was fourteen and he went on to become Iceland’s youngest skipper at only nineteen,’ said Rob Whitehead of AMS.
‘He moved to Namibia in 1994 where, for several years, he was skipper of the largest hake freezer trawler operating in Namibian waters.’
From there he moved to Cape Town in 1999 to join I&J as skipper of their larger freezer trawlers before stepping ashore into a new role in 2003 as the company’s sea-going troubleshooter and trawl gear developer.
‘Lalli has extensive experience as a skipper and in trawl gear technology, and has developed superior trawl gear designs specifically suited for South African fishing conditions. His vast experience is now available to all AMS customers where we are ready to support you in all your future trawl design and construction projects,’ Rob Whitehead said.
‘We welcome Lalli to AMS and look forward to a new era in our relationship with our customers.’
