According to Seafish Paul W Kerr has been appointed as the new Independent member on the Board representing Northern Ireland. It is told that the appointment of Kerr is from the 15 June 2009 and will be for a period of three years. Paul was chairman of Northern Ireland Seafood Ltd from April 2002 to 2009 and was also a member of Northern Ireland Food Strategy Group.
Seafish Chairman Charles Howeson said in a statement that he was glad to welcome the new member to the board following the official confirmation his appointment. He added that all the members of Seafish look forward to working with him to create a more efficient, profitable and sustainable seafood industry, both here in Britain and internationally.
Experts believe that the appointment of Paul Kerr has been made in accordance with guidance issued by the Office for the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA). All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees political activity (if any declared) to be made public.
