Krill catching and processor vessel Juvel has been delivered in Skagen to its new owners, Norwegian company Aker BioMarine Antarctic.
According to shipbroker Atlantic Shipping, this is a unique vessel, built at Slipen Mekaniske in Norway in 2003, and lengthened in 2008 to 99,50 metres, when the fish processing factory was removed and the krill hydrolysis factory deck was installed. Juvel has an 8160hp Wärtsilä 12V32 main engine, and an exceptional fuel capacity with a 30,000 nautical mile endurance for operating in the distant waters of the Southern Ocean.
Juvel is very well kept and in perfect order all over, according to Atlantic Shipping, which states that it has a highly specialised processsing system on board which will require investigation by the buyer, while conversion to conventional fisheries would be an option, but one that would incur substantial costs in fitting a freezing plant, refitting the factory, remodelling the trawl deck and installing refrigeration for the 3200 fishroom which is divided into two sections.
Until recently Juvel was operated in the Southern Ocean by Olympic Shipping subsidiary Rimfrost, until a forced sale took place with Aker BioMarine placing the successful bid for the ship.
