– IFFO certification is a simpler process than the MSC certification which the Danish Fishing Association is trying to get introduced for all Danish fishing, explains Hans Otto Sørensen, R&D Manager of TripleNine. He therefore expects the certification to be in place early in the new year.
– The main requirement for certification is that the fishing must be sustainable and of course traceable, says Hans Otto Sørensen.
– For fishing to be sustainable, it must as a minimum comply with the quotas and regulations established by the EU, he adds.
As already mentioned, the fishing must also be traceable, but Hans Otto Sørensen does not expect this to impose stricter requirements on the fishermen than those already in force. – Fishing is already monitored to such a degree that the location of each vessel at any time is known on land, he notes.
For the entire production of Danish fishmeal and fish oil to be certified, every factory must itself ensure that its own technical production is certified.
